TMI Tuesday

1. Have you ever broken something in someone's home unknown to them and never told them? If yes, explain.
Nope, I am apt to hurt myself at someone's house.  Clumsy like that.

2. What's one sexual guilty pleasure that you wouldn't openly tell your friends about? Why?
Like I would tell you!  But to give a hint...not in 4 walls.

3. Take a peek over any celebrity's shoulder in the bathroom...who are they and what are they reading?
Do they really read? Just kidding.  I really do not care.
4. Roses are red, violets are blue...[finish this line with your own rhyme]
and I am going to have my fun with you!

5. Do you believe in ghosts or other supernatural activity? Why or why not?
Yes, I do.  I have experienced my lost family come to me when I was lost.  I am the person I am today because of it.

Bonus (optional): How many times have you thought about sex in the last 24 hours? What triggered it? Who did it involve? Provide as much details as you like.
Not even...and really I have not in a while.  It happens.
P.S. Have fun questions or ideas that you'd like to submit to the TMI Tuesday list? Feel free to send them tomundanetoms[at]gmail[dot]com

Trust Issues

Trust.  Always has been hard for me.  It goes back to elementary school.  I was a Latchkey kid who depended on an older brother to have the key.  Who knew the older brother was the making of a juvenile delinquent.  I remember coming home from school and locking myself in the space between the screen door and the condo door and my mother finding me that way.  Asleep.  Or ripping the rubber lining out of the windows to break in.  I learned then I could never depend on him.  And years later after he has given up his delinquent ways, I still do not trust him to be there for me.  I just cannot.  It wasn't that he was not there after school.  It was proven over and over.  Often I question if I am holding him to a standard that he can never meet.  But with his new life of finding and embracing the Lord I am left in the cold because I do not conform to his beliefs.  One extreme to the other.  Still no trust.

I start with all of this to explain when my trust issues began but did not end.

Whether it is in my social life, workplace or family environments I experience trust issues.  Most days it is a battle day to day to choose how much I reveal, speak about or share.  I know that all of those words are synonyms however I view each one differently.

Reveal = basic information that will maybe or maybe not give you enough to ask more questions

Speak =  have conversations dealing with hot topics, feelings regarding the situation, or share an opinion

Share =  give you a piece of me

What I have realized there are not a lot of people like me out there.  It is usually two out of three.  Or maybe one.  I have all three.

Some days I wish I could be open and allow people into my world.  Where I can shake off the words.  Not feel like I am alone.  Or shake of the request to assist and have been deserted.  I have attempted.  Yet I always take situations the wrong way if you listen to others.  When I find people who poke fun, or make statements that are demeaning with the information I am sharing I shut down.  Good luck turning me on again with you.  But it is not just that.

I have found through my short 33 years that people are fickle and shun or demean others who are not alike.  I have never been alike.

...to be continued...

What I Have Learned from the Decade of 2000-2009

For me learning is a day to day adventure...I always try to find new information with my interactions...here are some of mine...

  1. Although we all grew up in the same home we each took that upbringing and walked a different path.  I am still trying to understand.
  2. Just because you had a traumatic event does not mean anyone gets how it changes you.
  3. Finding love is a hard job.
  4. The economy today does not care what degree you have.
  5. Even if you have issues with your childhood and your parents have not always given what you wanted they are always there when you need them.
  6. Sometimes that 1st real love is all you are going to get.
  7. You have to follow your dreams.
  8. Stick it out even when you wonder what you are going to eat.
  9. Don't believe the hype...Chuck D said it best.
  10. My nephews and niece show me that I am still young but old.
  11. Never put a person on a pedestal, stay grounded that they are human like you.
  12. Have empathy, someone had it for you.
  13. Do not believe Obama is here just for Black America.  If you voted for him for that reason you are delusional.
  14. Y'all Michael Jackson is gone!
  15. I am not a socialable person.  Can't even fake it.  Sorry.
  16. I am 33 years old and still have no idea why I am here on Earth.  How messed up is that.
  17. My sister birthed an awesome child...Cameron Isaiah...my Buddha!
  18. I understand my parents 40 year marriage...goodness!
  19. My old English Professor was correct, don't believe half of what you read.  Find your own sources.

More later...

I loved this past decade because I grew as a person.  I will not change the obstacles, triumphs and mishaps placed in my path.  Finally I am ok with being 33.

Tagged by PoeticGenesis

Yeah she tagged me @ like 7 am in Friday...who does that? LOL She said she got hers early in the AM too!

So here goes...

Here’s the idea (you can copy this paragraph to use in your post):

I am going to list three categories of books. 5 MUST Read Books, 5 Books on Your Nightstand, and 5 Look For These Soon. Keeping with the theme, I am going to tag at least 5 bloggers. They should put these same lists on their blog but SUBTRACT one book from each list and ADD one of their own. Then they should tag at least 5 more bloggers. It will be fun to see how the lists change as it goes around the blogosphere. Please come back to this post and leave a comment so I can see how the lists are changing as they go around the blogosphere. Since this is Book Buzz…please keep your lists to titles released in 2007-2009.

5 MUST Read Books:
Them by Nathan McCall
Orange Mint and Honey by Carliss Brice
Yellow Moon by Jewell Parker Rhodes
Conception by Kalisha Buckhanon

The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Soulja

5 Books on the Nightstand:

Pig Candy: Taking My Father South, Taking my Father Home Lise Funderburg
From Harvey River by Lorna Goodison

Hello!

I have been gone for a while. Not really writing about my life...my new job is kicking my shiny behind in so many ways. Not because it is especially challenging in the mental department, but I never sit down from walking and assisting clients. And trust me I love feeling useful, answering questions, and sensing that I am helping the hard road of unemployment (you know I truly understand)...but it wears on a soul. My soul is weary.

I hope to get a better grip on this soon.

TMI Tuesday

Here it goes....!

This is a tribute to the late great George Carlin.

1. What is your language pet peeve. (example 'hot water heater', why would you heat hot water)
When people use prepositions at the end of a sentence. Whether written or spoken. Irks the crap out of me! (But I am not always dilligent with myself so don't go looking for it!)

2. What is your favorite word? Both dirty and clean?
Dirty:When I was younger my cousins & older brother taught me all the curse words. I use to sing them in a song...."Gotdamnmuthafucashitshit" I still love them all! My Mom use to hear me sing it all the time but in my little girls voice (probably around 5 yrs. old) she had no clue what I was saying! I told her later in life. LOL!!
Clean:Whatever. Said when you say something totally ridiculous!

3. What is the one word you cannot spell?
Um...that's what spell check is for. But I always have issues with convienence....too many "e's"

4. What is the one word you always pronounce wrong?
There isn't one word. If I am tired, my tongue gets very heavy. (That sounds wrong)

5. If you could erase one popular catchphrase from the english language, what would it be?
"Yeah, that's what's up"

Bonus (as in optional): The late, and very hot Michael Hutchence (INXS) once sang, "Words are weapons, sharper than knives" . What is the most hurtful thing you have ever said to anyone? Was it deliberate or accidental? What was the most hurtful thing ever said to you? Do you think it was deliberate or accidental?
I cannot repeat those words...but nothing about it was accidental.

Saturday Morning Recap-Week 06/21-06/27/2008

Ok...I am attempting. <----key word....to start something regular besides my Quote of the Day. (Which is not a regular as I attended. Sometimes when reading through my books, files and journal entries nothing suits my fancy.) Anyhoo...since I read all types of e-zines and articles I always want to tell you about it. The fear of being redundant holds me back.

So the genius that I am I decided to make a Saturday Morning Recap of the weeks best stories. I hope it works and you enjoy. I have so many stories saved on my Google reader. (You can always check out my google reader widget on the sidebar for more stories.) It's ridiculous.

So enjoy and give me feedback.

Protecting Your Blog

As we all know people steal on the net. It is what it is. When you write...you write from your heart and soul. It represents who you are and know one wants to have that stripped. I found this post here and it gives a run down of what you can do to protect your heart in the blog world.

Tell me what you do to protect your life on the blogsphere.

My Autobiography Would SOUND Like This

I stole this from The Jaded NYer who stole it from somewhere else.

Found it fun and interesting so it took a little time (honestly a WHOLE lot of time) to come up with my soundtrack. I love older music so don't be shocked if you do not see the latest. It's just how I roll.

Let me know what you think?!

So here goes:If your life were a movie, what songs would be on the soundtrack? Copy and paste the list of different scenes below and fill in your answers.

-Opening Credits:
The Prayer~Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli

-Waking Up:
Let's GO Crazy-Prince

Random Thoughts...

My post have been infrequent of late. I just have not been here...really just existing. And that sucks. And I still have nothing to say, but I do have random thoughts as I sit here waiting on a phone call.

-> The Hornets are going to make me drive to N'awlins and kick their ass.

-> I have the most bougie dog in the world. I need it to stop raining so she will take her fat ass out and go to the bathroom. (She doesn't like her paws to get wet and literally hops around to keep them dry.) I have literally had to pick her butt up and drop her in the grass.

-> My baby started crawling this weekend!! I wish his Mom was here to witness it. She told us when we dropped her off at the airport to not put him on the floor. Yeah, right. Homeboy scooted his but off my lap, down my legs and took off.

-> My Mom really should not have bought me the case of Coke. I promised I would not drink it all at once. I really am trying Mom.

-> Back to the NBA...the Spurs have to be the most boring team on the planet. And I am not speaking strictly on their play. No one on that team has a personality. No one. Not even Tony Parker. They remind me of Utah during the Malone/Stockton era. Talk about watching paint dry.

-> I worked for your company for 4 years. Must you really put me through the paces of a new hire? You hired me once. You can hire me again. 3 months? Really? 3 months for all the paperwork to be completed? That's BS. You know it. I know it.

-> Ms. Bashir---thank you for coming into my life. Who would have thunk it?

-> You can have Daddy issues even if the man has been in your life since day one.

-> I have to face the fact that I helped raise a spoiled little sister. She is in Belize and says that a $10 steak is cheap. She refuses to eat fish and her $$ flow is low. How in the hell is that cheap? She better get some bread and H20.

-> Leaving you Saturday night was one of the hardest things I have had to do in a long time. Why does it seem my hard decisions always center around you?

-> From Grey's Anatomy...I don't make friends easily. From the Moody Gemini...I don't make friends easily. And I don't know why.

-> If the Celtics screw up tomorrow I will have to remove KG from He Can Get It List

The Keys to My Heart

I stole this from Eb...

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you're told that you're loved.

You'd like to your lover to think you are loyal and faithful... that you'll never change.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was insecure and in constant need of reassurance.

Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything... no secrets.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.

In this moment, you think of love as something you thirst for. You'll do anything for love, but you won't fall for it easily.

What are yours?

The Seven Deadly Sins or the Cardinal Sins have been around since the Bible although they are not listed you can gather what is a sin by what is professed as a righteous life. I remember first learning of the sins and thought I would never succumb to those sins. All in my self-righteous armor.

But as we know, what we say in youth is often dismissed as we leave our sheltered world of our parents. Experiences, opportunities often bring forth that inner person that is always waiting to emerge. Lying in wait for the chance to breakthrough.

The Sins ===>

Pride

Greed
Greed

Envy

Deadly Sin- Wrath

Gluttony
Deadly Sin Gluttony
Sloth

Right off the back I can admit proudly (sin) that Pride is my #1 sin. I am 100% it has prevented me from a lot over the course of my life. My present situation is a true testament to this. Hence me eating crow right now.

Pride is an intoxicating emotion. You feel all powerful, invincible, worthy, supreme. On the adverse it limits you. You do not understand or are capable of asking for help. You do not reach out for support, you do not see the blessings in your life, you believe you alone are greatness.

And there is nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with possessing a self-esteem that floats you through life, a belief that you alone are greatness...a strong confidence in yourself.

The issue comes into play when you allow your self-esteem to negate all other possibilities. The offers of help, the offer of friendship and companionship. When you live with the belief that you alone are responsible for your own destiny. That's when your pride has overtaken the humble side of yourself. Pride is the most dangerous. It breeds an environment that all of the other sins are acceptable. Because after all you are all powerful.
So when you lust for sex and it drives you to take risk...it's your pride because HIV can never happen to you. Unplanned pregnancy? Whatever.
When you know you should push yourself away from the table, you don't. Instead you do finish off that rack of ribs. Your pride tells you that you will work off later. How often does that happen?
You know the 2nd-skin black tube dress is something that a 21 year old can get away with wearing but you put your 40 year old butt in it. Yeah, your body is holding its own, but really is it appropriate? How many more times can you embarrass your teenage son?

What is your sin? Which one do you commit and even shake your head as you do?

I found this Seven Deadly Sins quiz---take it and see if it measures up to who you envision as YOU. Check it out...http://www.4degreez.com/misc/seven_deadly_sins.html

Also, more reading...in case you are interested. I must admit that I have always found this subject factinating.

And a side note...the digital art of the sins are awesome, right?

Lessons Learned

After posting a What I've Learned I decided I would make my own list. Kinda like my personal truths. Not complete by any means. I have 31 years to sift through!

  1. Allow a person to show you who they are and thank them.
  2. There are no such things as mistakes. It's called life.
  3. Know your value. If you don't know, no one else will.
  4. Know when to speak & when to listen.
  5. When dealing with your significant other always be a friend first.
  6. Show people how to treat you.
  7. Make the most out of every opportunity even if you think it's not for you. You might be surprised.
  8. Never turn off your inner voice; it is your guidance during the storm.
  9. Offer a listening ear, a strong hug, but never make other people's problems yours.
  10. Ask more questions. Answer less.
  11. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, "Ask them why do they want to know?"
  12. Learn how to be a survivor. Scratch, punch, kick, cry, pray ---do whatever you have to do. But survive.
  13. Always have a place for yourself that no one can have.
  14. I am a grown ass woman. There are some things I just won't do anymore.
  15. A smile goes a lot further than a frown.
  16. Your looks will leave, your body will betray you, but your spirit & character remain the same. Make sure they are good ones.

That's it for now folks. Will add more when the light bulb goes off.
